CCX

The Gregory Centre for Church Multiplication (CCX) supports leaders, church teams and dioceses across London, England and beyond as they multiply disciples, churches and networks.

Led by the Bishop of Islington, the Rt Revd Ric Thorpe, they equip and resource the Church to establish new churches and to help communities grow existing churches.

The Brief

CCX approached us to help improve their website journey and LearnDash eLearning system. Over the years, the CCX organisation has grown in size and complexity of their offerings, and with it, the website evolved also. It was in need of organisation, standardisation and a simplification of the user journey.

Furthermore, CCX wanted to understand the art of the possible with how they could extend their website and eLearning platform to deliver more complex services to their organisation and audiences.

Our challenge came in three measures: to help the CCX team understand the art of the possible, to help them define how to best use their web platforms to grow and of course how to improve the online experience while doing so.

Proof of concept

CCX decided to invest in a proof of concept phase, to build out core features within LearnDash and WooCommerce and better understand the art of the possible. Some exciting features were developed!

We created a white-labelling feature, to allow CCX services to be made available to other organisations within their own branded experience. We created new features for learner management, engagement and reporting. We helped CCX explore new ways to show and manage events, alongside their courses. And we helped CCX explore new ways to manage user data and link with CRMs.

The proof of concept process was invaluable in creating a shared understanding with CCX on their vision, and uncovering new ideas and ambitions for the main project ahead.

Discovery process

A detailed discovery process is almost always worth investing in, to ensure the project is fully understood, scoped and planned.

In the case of CCX however, the discovery process was also an opportunity to reflect on the proof of concept that was created and begin the process of re-imagining the user experience across both the website and eLearning experience.

It also allowed the Kanuka Digital team to gather more information which would be used in the web redesign phase.

As always, the discovery process was more than just sharing information. It stimulated discussions and new ideas, ultimately refining and improving the project as a whole.

Web redesign and information restructure

The design phase was a fantastic opportunity to bring all of the ideas into one visualisation, to ensure there was a clear understanding before build began.

The CCX site already had great branding, so the challenge in this phase was to better organise and structure the existing site content to make it easier for the extensive and broad CCX audience.

The page structure was improved and reflected in the new navigation setup. We also created a set re-usable blocks for key pages, which the CCX team would be able to edit and re-use across the site after the build was complete.

Improved search functionality

CCX has a wide range of user types, from those new to CCX to those who know exactly what they are looking for. The search functionality therefore needed to support both types of people.

We implemented a search function which dynamically showed matching results as the user typed into the search box. The search results separated themselves into each category, training, resources, events, people, organisations, etc.

To make this possible, we worked with the CCX team to create a new data structure to cover each category (training, resources, events, people, organisations, etc.). This was an extensive and complex piece of work, but was critical in providing a solid data foundation on which the CCX team could build in years to come.

LearnDash eLearning improvements

We recommended a set of official LearnDash add-ons which would bring the most value to the CCX team and the learner experience.

  • LearnDash ProPanel Analytics: Assessing course performance and make data driven decisions.
  • LearnDash Groups Plus: Student and user management,
  • LearnDash Notes: Improved tutor / learner communication.
  • LearnDash Notifications: Automatic messaging to students based on enrolment, course completion, not logged in for a period, etc.
