Serious Global

Serious Global teaches people to become professional facilitators of outcome-oriented meetings. Akin to leadership development training, they teach using LEGO® Serious Play® as a foundation.

SERIOUSWORK began in 2015 when Sean Blair and Marko Rillo shared a coffee and discussed how to help people understand the process, impact and outcomes of professionally facilitated meetings and workshops. They launched a book in 2016 which has since become the foundation text for LEGO® Serious Play®. 

Serious Global now has teams in Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa, South Korea, China, Portugal and the UK. They have facilitated key meetings and workshops for some of the world’s best-known companies.

The Brief

Kanuka Digital were approached by the Serious Global team to assist with a new website which had been created by a different web development agency but had many challenges from launch, including site performance and usability.

Our primary objective was to bring the Serious Global website code to a fully stable and fit-for-purpose condition. With that achieved, we could then move on to identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the website and to scale the visibility, traffic volume and market share through assistance with SEO and paid search channels.

Our Approach

Our first step with the Serious Global website was to conduct an in-depth and comprehensive audit of the code base. This gave our development team a solid understanding of how the highly customised code had been written, which in turn made future development quicker and safer. The audit also provided a clear view of the core issues and opportunities to improve.

Armed with this information, we implemented the high-priority findings from the audit, covering security improvements, user experience/conversion, site speed, SEO and general site health. We also migrated the site to our own managed hosting service. This allows us to bring site performance improvements to the site, while also allowing our proactive monitoring to identify and resolve performance issues as they occur.

With the core audit findings implemented, we then agreed on a prioritised set of improvements to the site, covering UX / conversion, GDPR and further site speed improvements.

Improved navigation

One of the priority improvements to the Serious Global website was to improve the existing header navigation. Building on initial design concepts from Serious Global, we collaborated on improvements across mobile and desktop devices to make the Serious Global service offerings much easier to understand, and easier for potential customers to find the right training for them.

Improved site performance

The Serious Global site was slow and pages loaded inconsistently for customers, creating a frustrating browsing experience. We improved site performance and stability through two primary routes.

By moving the site to our own managed hosting, we were able to stabilise performance immediately. And our active monitoring ensured that opportunities to further improve could be recommended.

We also conducted a site health audit to uncover issues and present opportunities to improve stability. 

SEO audit

SEO is core to everything we do at Kanuka. Our sister company, Proof3, our in-house SEO experts, delivered an SEO audit to recommend how best to set the Serious Global site up for long-term SEO and traffic growth. 

Recommendations made from the audit are prioritised based on ROI and implemented by our developers, Proof3 and the Serious Global team.

WordPress training

The Kanuka Digital approach is to enable our customers to do more with their websites so that they need only utilise our team for the more complex challenges. This makes the best use of our customer’s development time and provides the best ROI in the long term.
