EIT Urban Mobility

EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Since November 2019 they have worked to encourage positive changes in the way people move around cities in order to make them more liveable places. EIT Urban Mobility Academy works with urban mobility experts to help professionals develop their skills through diverse learning modalities including eCourses, short videos and blended programs.

The Brief

EIT Urban Mobility has an extensive range of high quality courses which aim to help professionals make cities more liveable, with course topics covering city transport and policy planning, urban design, pollution reduction, city logistics, future mobility trends and more.

They needed a new WordPress and LearnDash expert to take over the development and maintenance of their existing site and deliver their ambitious roadmap of new developments. They specifically needed an agency who are experts in LearnDash and WordPress with a specific focus on maintainability for these platforms.

Improved registration and course enrolment process

We redesigned the user journey of the student registration and login process to make the process smoother, simpler and make it more logical. This was a significant enhancement which created a bespoke course login and registration process and unified the login for course registration and purchase of certificates. This has significantly improved user experience, and user registration success rates.

To enhance the login process to the next level we additionally implemented a single sign on system, which allows students to register and login using their Google and LinkedIn accounts, significantly speeding up the registration and login process.

Course filtering and selection system

We created a WordPress plugin on the multi facetted course selection page to make it much easier for visitors to browse courses by category, level, course length, etc. This made the course selection process significantly more user friendly. Prior to this, the course selection process was a single list of courses on the homepage, which was intermingled with other site content, making course selection difficult and time consuming.

Kanuka Digital worked collaboratively with EIT on what was a large, data-intensive exercise. EIT tagged all of their courses with the information which customers would want to use to filter and search courses. We used that data to power the page and filter options. Making life significantly simpler for end users.

Course star rating system and questionnaire

EIT identified the need for students to provide feedback on courses and make that feedback available to other students to help with course selection. We integrated a star rating system which is a feature of LearnDash letting prospective students know which courses are highly rated. They can also read reviews in detail before making a course selection to get a more detailed understanding of course specifics before making their enrollment choices.

We also improved the journey for the end of course questionnaire, which was previously presented in the middle of a course. We redesigned the process to improve the user experience and allow the questionnaire to be completed after course completion.

‘My Learning’ account area redesign

EIT identified the need to improve the account section of the site, with specific focus on ensuring the experience was suitable for mobile. The account redesign allowed students to better manage their account and learning experience. This section allows them to track the progression of courses in progress, allowing them to jump back into a course they have previously started.

They also have a record of courses completed, certificates they have attained, and for those who have completed several courses, their completed / partially completed courses can be filtered by category. They can also browse recommendations of similar courses which may be a good fit for their learning.

I always seek collaborators who, beyond simply implementing what I ask, advise me, and take ownership of the project. In this regard, Kanuka suggested critical functionalities that have tremendously enhanced the participant experience. Clearly, they are experts in Learn Dash and have experience in Customer Journey.
